Journalists from over 20 mass media outlets of the Republic of Moldova, including local ones, are getting prepared to cover the general local elections and partial parliamentary elections of October 2019. During the period of 23-25 August, they participated in the “Weekend Training: Media & Elections”, organised by the Central Electoral Commission and the United Nations Development Programme.

36 young people will become ambassadors of local development and will connect their peers from diaspora to the priorities of their native communities

36 young people from partner communities of the “Migration and Local Development” Project will join the existing Hometown Associations (HTA) encouraging their peers from the community, as well as those overseas, to get involved in the development of their native localities. This was agreed at the “E-road HOME” summer camp, organized during 20-22 August 2019 by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with the support of the Government of Switzerland.

The first support centre for survivors of gender-based violence from Gagauzia region will be opened in 2019

For the first time, women from Gagauzia region who suffer from violence could benefit from shelter and assistance in a centre that will be functional by the end of 2019. The staff of the centre will provide psychological counselling, as well as social and legal support. Women will also be advised how to find a job or start a business. The initiative is part of a project implemented by the United Nations Development Programme, with funding from the Republic of Korea.

Call for applications for grants for the establishment of precipitation water storage basins

Civil society will monitor action plans of the National Integrity and Anticorruption Strategy, with UNDP support

Civil society representatives will monitor how the authorities from nine local districts and the Gagauz Autonomy implement the action plans adopted under the National Integrity and Anticorruption Strategy. The NGOs will also analyze the implementation of the sectorial anticorruption plans in the fields of education, public health, public procurement, administration and privatization of public property, public order. The monitoring results will be included in the shadow reports which will be presented to the relevant authorities, development partners and to the general public.

Young ambassadors of integrity from the Republic of Moldova and Romania attended an anticorruption school

Thirty anticorruption volunteers from Moldova and Romania chose to spend their vacation at the summer school “Youth against corruption”, organized on July 21-28, in the town of Vadul lui Voda. Guided by anticorruption officers from Chisinau and Bucharest, participants will get acquainted with the mechanisms to prevent and combat corruption and illegal practices. Simultaneously, they will work on developing communication products to promote integrity in the field of education and combat practices that generate corruption.

n July 19, 2019, the second edition of the National Youth Forum in Electoral Field, organized by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Center for Continuous Electoral Training (CCET) and United Nations Development Program in Moldova (UNDP), was launched in Chisinau. The Forum brings together over 150 participants aged between 18-35 years, representatives of 17 youth organizations of political parties in Moldova that accepted the invitation to participate.

Two solar trees that generate green energy are being installed in Chisinau

Two solar trees that generate photovoltaic electricity are being installed in the capital city of Moldova. The construction works are in progress, and Chisinau people will soon benefit from "smart tree services". They will be able to charge up for free their mobile devices, computers, electric bicycles; have access to the Internet and relax. In the evenings, the trees will light up the surroundings due to the stored sun energy during the day. The solar trees will be under 24-hour video surveillance. The initiative belongs to the United Nations Development Programme and is being implemented in partnership with the Chisinau City Hall.

What is the quality of life in Chisinau?

The initiative was is of the Innovation Laboratories of the UNDP Moldova: MiLab and Green City Lab – and was carried out in partnership with Chisinau City Hall.
