A New Mentorship Program for Active Women was launched in Chisinau
The ‘INSPIR-O!’ National Mentorship Program for Active Women implemented in 7 localities with zero representation of women in local councils has been launched successfully! The first official interaction between the mentors and the mentees took place in Chisinau on 8 April.
This mentorship program aimed at developing professional and leadership skills comprises 23 women, selected in December of the last year, from Nisporeni, Orhei, Soroca, Drochia, Cantemir and Ialoveni districts for the period of one year.
Galina Precup, coordinator of the ‘INSPIR-O’ Program, stated that the mentorship program will help women leaders strengthen their skills of accessing decision-making positions at community level. ‘The mentorship program is of utmost importance for changing and redressing women’s status in their communities’, said Ms. Precup.
Certain suggestions and examples for the most efficient cooperation in the mentorship relation were presented, objectives and activities were set and, most importantly, memorandums of understanding between each dyad were signed during the interaction event.
Vera Ciuchitu, the mentor in the Mentorship Program, mentioned that she became a leader, by the mentorship programs, saying ‘I learned a lot both from my mentor and from my mentees.’
Madalina Pripa, a mentee from Pelinia village, Drochia district, and the youngest participant in the Mentorship Program, is the local youth leader in her home village. ‘I’ve decided to help my community, and I hope that the mentorship program will help me launch a new project in Pelinia,’ Madalina Pripa says.
Another mentor, Sofia Ursul, noted that the mentorship relation means multiplication of her thoughts. ‘I’ve always wanted women to be in politics. For me, politics is not associated with political parties. For me, politics is when women become leaders in any field. Experience shows that positive changes are made where women are in decision-making positions.’
So far, three training modules on subjects related to gender equality, creation of community development projects and meaning of mentorship relations were held as a part of the program.
The main goal of ‘INSPIR-O’ is to strengthen the leadership skills of 23 women from 7 communities and consolidate their skills to access local political positions, to promote the concept of gender equality in local policies, as an indispensable part of good governance.
‘INSPIR-O’ National Mentorship Program for Active Women is conducted by the ‘Partnership for Development’ Centre, with the support of ‘Women in Politics’ UN Program, implemented by the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the ‘Partnership for Development’ Center and East Europe Foundation, financially supported by the Government of Sweden.
