Young people, especially the first voters, have become informed voters

More than 30,000 young people participated directly in the information and simulation activities of the electoral processes, organized by 7 non-governmental organizations during 2018. In Chisinau capital city, volunteers from the National Youth Center from Moldova were the ones who distributed information materials and discussed face to face with young people, covering also universities.

If for over two decades local authorities were helplessly observing people leaving home villages and towns to find a better life either outside the country or in other communities of Moldova, now they know they can transform migration into an opportunity for local development. This change of approach was possible for 38 partner communities of the UNDP “Migration and Local Development” Project, funded by the Government of Switzerland.

The electoral education campaign in Gagauzia was conducted by two non-governmental organizations, Comrat Legal Clinic and Media Birlii - Union Media, in partnership with the Central Electoral Commission and the Election Commission in Gagauzia. The NGOs were selected according by competition and benefited from a grant offered by a United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) project funded the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the British Embassy in Chisinau through the Good Governance Fund and the Embassy of Netherlands through the Matra Program.

Ana is 26 years old and she succeeded to escape from a marriage in which her life was in danger almost every day. “My ex-husband was telling me every day that he will kill me and bury me in the garden. I was living in permanent fear”. The man would often switch from threatening to actions and would hit her until full distress. He would become even more violent when the woman tried to call for help. “If I did not divorce, I would have been dead since long ago”.

Over 11,000 police officers performing their duties benefit from better conditions of diseases’ treatment and control, after endowment of the MAI Medical Service with cutting-edge medical equipment. This was possible thanks to a project implemented by UNDP, from financial resources allocated by the MIA, the MIA Medical Service and UNDP.

Ahead of upcoming elections later this year, the Academy will train 140+ women interested in politics and decision-making in public speaking and organizing effective electoral campaigns.
